Shimanami Sea Route

Shimanami Sea Route is a collective name of the motor highway over the Seto Inland Sea to connect Imabari (Ehime) and Onomichi (Hiroshima) and some of the islands in between. The total length is 59.4km. The islands are linked by 9 splendid bridges such as triplet suspension bridge, arch bridge, cable-stayed bridge. The cycler & pedestrian ways are running parallel to some parts of the motorway, and 14 cycling terminals to rent (and drop-off) a bike along the way. Enjoy cycling and walking.

Imabari Castle

Imabari CastleImabari Castle was constructed in 1604 by Todo Takatora, an ace castle builder at that time. The castle, built on the seaside plain and surrounded by the triple seawater moats, is one of the rare castle designs throughout the nation. The structure of the donjon is 5-layer-6-story, and the exhibits include the great collection of habiliments and armors.

Iyo Sakurai Shikki Kaikan
(Sakurai Lacquer Ware Hall)

Iyo Sakurai Shikki KaikanSakurai Shikki lacquer ware is traditional artwork with more than 250-year history in Imabari. Variety of the soup bowls and chopsticks and other daily tableware and lacquer picture panels are displayed and sold. You can also observe the workshop.

Yoshiumi Iki-iki-Kan Farm Stand

Yoshiumi Iki-iki-Kan Farm StandFarm stand and restaurant in Oshima island in the Inland Sea, just off the Kurushima Kaikyo Ohashi Bridge. Fresh seafood BBQ is very popular. There is a reception desk for renting a bike and boat for the wild-current ride.

Sai-sai Kiteya, local produce marketing centerOne of the nation's biggest produce stands opened in 2007. You can buy anything from fresh vegetables and seafood grown and caught in Imabari, and enjoy the food and drinks at the restaurant and the cafe.

Sunrise Itoyama

Sunrise ItoyamaSunrise Itoyama, Imabari Cycling Terminal. The main cycling terminal of Shimanami Sea Route Cycling Road at the foot of the Kurushima Kaikyo Ohashi Bridge. You can rent and drop off a bike here. There is a restaurant and an inn.

Wild-current Ride

Wild-current RideKurushima Kaikyo Strait is one of the three fastest currents in Japan, and you can enjoy experiencing the wildly fast stream in a boat. Apply at the Yoshiumi Iki-iki-Kan and sail from the Shitadami-ko Port. Cruise around islands, under the Kurushima Kaikyo Ohashi Bridge and some shipbuilding docks for 40 mins.

Kiro-san Observatory and Park

Kiro-san Observatory and ParkThe sensational view from the 307.8-meter top of Mt. Kiro-san. The observatory at the south end of Oshima Island is uniquely designed under the mountain and cannot be seen from outside. From the top, you can enjoy the panoramic view of the Kurushima Kaikyo Ohashi Bridge, the world’s first triplet suspension bridge, in front of you, and on your back, Mt. Ishizuchi.

Tatara Shimanami Park

Tatara Shimanami ParkTatara Ohashi Bridge, one of the world's biggest cable-stayed bridge links Omishima (Ehime) and Ikuchishima (Hiroshima). The seaside park is just off the bridge. There are info center, shops for local produces, restaurant and desk to rent a bike.

Oyamazumi Jinja Shrine

Oyamazumi Jinja ShrineOyamazumi Jinja is a principal shrine in Japan, and the main deity enshrined was the god of the sea and the mountains. You must see the repository in which 80% of the National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties are housed.

Murakami Suigun Museum

The museum has a great collections and display of armors, literatures and unearthed articles of the Murakami Pirates. You can wear armors and kimono for free.
